Bitung – 17th July 2024, Regional Forum for the Protection of Fisherman and Fisheries Workers (Forum Daerah Perlindungan Pekerja Perikanan dan Nelayan or known as Forda P3N) North Sulawesi has done employment joint inspection on fisheries boat with DFW Indonesia. This inspection is entering its fourth year in North Sulawesi. On this inspection, they also checked on a 30GT boat that was located around Bitung Ocean Fishing Port (Pelabuhan Perikanan Samudera Bitung or known as PPS Bitung). This inspection involved Forda P3N members especially working team 2, such as: Labor Inspection Unit of Department of Labor and Transmigration North Sulawesi Province, Head of Regional Office Ministry of Law and Human Rights North Sulawesi Province, Head of Class I Immigration Manado, Fisheries Harbormaster of PPS Bitung, Head Of Tumumpa Beach Fishing Port, and representative of Ministry of Marine and Fisheries and Ministry of Labor Republic of Indonesia. This activity opened with a welcome remark from the Head of Bitung Ocean Fishing Port that was represented by Recky Pangemanan, Lead for Harbormaster Team.
“We at PPS Bitung has already require minimum to the ship officer/ship captain to make sure that their boat has already suitable with the regulations that applied before permitted to sail, on the other side, PPS always adopt policies that pay attention to the fisheries actor, by considering the situation on the sea that is faced by fisheries worker and also the boat owner.” he said.
Imam Trihatmadja, Program Director of DFW Indonesia, also said that this joint inspection is done to integrate the supervision and protection to the workers, decreasing worker exploitation, force labor, and human trafficking indicator, as technical regulation for implementation of fisheries worker supervision, synergizing several regulations, and the last but not least is to increase the quality and consistency of the supervision in fisheries sector. This inspection is also an attempt to strengthen workers protection in Indonesia fisheries industry as part of the human rights protection and assurance.
On this inspection, the boat that has already been checked is scored by 35 indicators checklists that have been designed especially by Forda P3N through joint inspection above the boat implementation guideline to score boat appropriateness and fisheries workers safety. The report from this inspection will be sent into several department that related to be followed up such as: Department of Labor and Transmigration North Sulawesi Province, Labor Inspection Unit of Department of Labor and Transmigration North Sulawesi Province, Department of Marine and Fisheries North Sulawesi Province, Harbormaster of PPS Bitung, Ministry of Marine and Fisheries and Ministry of Labor Republic of Indonesia.
